A Community Organization
Climate COMPASS (Comprehensive plan Outreach for Meaningful Public Action & Sustainable Solutions). The Madrona Institute is our sponsor and the project is funded through a Dept of Commerce grant to help communities engage in local Comprehensive Planning Processes. The Friends of the San Juans applied for the grant and brought together a coalition including the Madrona Institute and the Family Resource Centers on Orcas, San Juan and Lopez.
COMPASS is an interactive, informative climate exercise, designed to engage community members in conversation and mutual learning about climate change in San Juan County. One of our goals is to gather meaningful comments for the Climate Element of the Comprehensive Plan and empower future engagement. It is a two hour process.
Groups of 6-10 people work around a table with a series of cards that are informative and drive the conversation and engagement. We can have multiple tables at the same time depending on turnout. It is ideal to also have capacity to project a power point. There is a 15 minute presentation on the Comprehensive Plan process and how to stay engaged.
