Take Us Out to the Ball Game
And take us to the parade, picnic, farmer’s market, raffle and Shaw Islanders, Inc.’s main fund-raiser, the live auction, with proceeds going toward the maintenance of the Community Center and programs for the next two years. Bring your family and friends to the biggest event of the year.
FRIDAY JULY 4
Parade staging is at 11 a.m. at the Community Center. Once the coordinated chaos has settled down, the parade will proceed to the county park. The picnic starts right after the parade, or about noon. Our culinary experts will call to your taste buds with hot dogs, baked beans, salads and desserts. Lunch costs $7.50 a meal. After lunch, trophies will be awarded for the best of everything, with the pinnacle of achievement the coveted Whittaker Trophy.
Starting at 2 p.m., a children’s softball game and at least one adult softball game will be played on Shaw Field. Yes, the free ice cream cones tradition will return. For those who can, please bring bats, balls and gloves to share.
SATURDAY JULY 5
Bring family and friends to the Community Center for a midday menu of outdoor activities from 11 a.m. to about 2 p.m., including a farmers’ market, children’s activities and live music. A raffle for dozens of items will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch starts about noon. The live auction opens at 2 p.m., with Chris Hopkins as the auctioneer.
